Legerete clinic with Sylvia Stossel april 2024 HD 1080p
The Legerete clinic was amazing as usual, Sylvia has many ideas and exercises to help each individual horse and rider.
For me and Espirito, who is now 23 years old, we focused on helping the collection with shoulder-in transitions which included transitions within the pace, forward active shoulder-in to a short more collected stride but keeping the same activity. We also included the rein back transitions too. We worked on the spanish walk by improving the forward active walk before i asked for the spanish walk to help the shoulders stay a bit straighter and steady the head position.
We worked on the canter changes on the last day and although i didn’t manage any clean changes i now how some useful exercises to help Espirito think a bit more about the hind legs but to also help me ride a confident change and keep myself in balance when i ask. Espirito used to leap around a lot and would anticipate when i was going to ask for the change. This has caused me to lean forward in the change and if I’m honest i was just hoping i would land back in the saddle as the change used to catapulte me in the air. This doesnt happen now so i need to ride the change as i would a normal transition to canter and help him by staying in balance.
The exercise we used at the beginning was canter circles, inside lead, transition to walk, renvers, counter canter. We then rode the transition without the walk transition to develop the change. The problem i have at home is the school is 20meters wide and this isn’t wide enough to ride this exercise as well as i can at the clinics where the school is much wider and we find it very difficult at home. For this reason i haven’t practised the canter changes since my last clinic with Sylvia. I didn’t want to confirm the late change any more than it was already. So what Sylvia suggested was to ride a small circle in the second corner of the school in a counter bend, ride out of the small circle to the diagonal line and ask for the change. This helps me a lot to stay in balance and prepare for the change. In the clinic i was asking to late and i need to time the aids for the change so it happens in the first stride of the diagonal so Espirito thinks a little more about the hind legs, if i allow one stride of canter as i ride out of the circle its to late, this will take some practise but i do feel it is an exercise which will help us both.
I wasn’t riding my best at this clinic, my hand still won’t fully close from the damage cause from the cast when i broke my arm, my shoulder is still frozen and i have an inflamed bursa in my right seat bone which made right weights aids a bit painful. I also drank to much wine with no exercise when i broke my arm so will be working hard on my fitness too!

Here is the edited version of my lecture demo in March 2024. Please excuse the wonky projector screen , i couldn't find the remote to get in to the settings and unfortunately i had a video camera fail! So the quality isn't good. If you are interested in hosting a demo or clinics please send me a message. 🙂 Music credit to www.bensound.com

All very basic work but the basics done to the standard Philippe Karl expects is very very difficult!
amazing, soft, horsefriendly riding. thank you for sharing it!
Thank you for your lovely comment 😊
I so wish we had these in the US!
Soft, connected and peaceful. Absolutely beautiful.
Very well done!
but in the half pass the horse is not trotting regular in its hind legs, and rythm is in classical dressage the first step of the education, never loose the rythm .....sorry to say that ....and i wonder why students of Mr. Karl or he himself are talking about Legerete and being friendly to horses but use always the sharp double bridle ?
my god, every flyinge change was late from behind...the horse is not in truly connection and through its body ...sorry to say this......if you want to get an true understanding of Legerete then please read books of Nuno Oliveira the portugiese master
Pferdecoach who said it was perfect! If you had any idea what journey we have been on you would say well done and not critique so negatively! He is 16 years old and had a major problem learning the changes. This was taken last summer and he has improved a lot since. I'd be interested to see video of your schooling efforts....... If not carrying on hiding behind your perfect keyboard!
Pferdecoach for the record I've read all his books when I was 15 years old
then there is an advice from Nuno Oliveira for the flyinge change: flyinge change is nothing else then as if you start new canter while you are cantering ! ...so, even trainers in my country are stupid and say yes without having thought about in a second and do it wrong; supposition for Oliveiras sentence is : you must be able to start canter from walk (on both sides ) with outside rein then you imagine that while you are cantering as you trained it in in walk then it is sooooooo easy to change the canter in canter ....i was suprised how easy ....it needs only a little imagination ability by the rider ...you dont need anything more , then you are in the deepest point of the saddle and the right moment , smile ....take the imagination from starting from walk to canter over to the canter .....ha ha ha......R.I.P Nuno Oliveira .... i read his books 2 years ago while my leg was broken in hospital and someone gave me his books to read in bed ......sometimes its a gift to broke a leg.....smile
Pferdecoach but you know nothing about my horse!! He now does clean changes but it's taken a long time! Only for an ideal work where it's as easy as reading a book!
Of all the dressage/schooling videos on youtube - this is the one you decided to criticise???
♥️♥️♥️♥️
just discovered your video, and wauw, I´m impressed! Both you and the horse looks so happy and relaxed, and there is so much "air" and space for the horse to move in. Way to often the horse is just cramped into a knot, so it is a real pleasure to watch this! :)
Becky this really paints a beautiful picture. How long did your ridden exam presentation take since the video is only 12 mins? Was it like demonstrating a normal training session in the school? Did you present to the music on this video? The connection between you and your partner is palpable. A nice gift to share with the rest of us. Many thanks.
So lovely to see a dressage partnership that isn't jammed up with tension. A friend put me onto this trainer and said to look him up I came across your videos and am very impressed lovey riding and a beautifully balanced happy dressage horse just beautiful to watch.
Lilly & Lace Photography thank you for your lovely comment
Nice work Becky. Must be a joy to be doing this work with your partner Espirito. Don't forget to smile through all that focus :-)
This was a pleasure to watch, those down transitions are masterful. I so wish I could work with Mr. Karl at some point.
Lovely!
Beautiful soft, gentle, results oriented work. Thank you for sharing.
Congratulations! you and your horse look lovely together. A very nice, soft ride. Thank you for sharing
Usually I don't comment UA-cam Videos, but this is simply so beautifully ridden! Really great work!
what a wonderful ride <3 be proud of youself and your horse!
Can you tell me the name of the musical pieces? The piano from 2:42-5:23 is gorgeous!
It is nice to see a happy horse who is moving forward, not overbent, on the verticle but not behind it and quiet hands and aids with reins that aren't cranking the horse. Other than maybe a more active walk this was very nice to watch! Well done. Judges need to reward this kind of riding.
I've always been taught that's not how you hold double reins (I'm not sure of the spelling, i know all these terms in spanish haha) but idk is there a reason why she holds them like that?
Yes there is a reason - look up Phillipe Karl and Legerete. It is called the French way and according to Phillipe Karl is really the only way to hold the reins that allows the rider to easily combine or separate the rein functions. Many famous riders including Nuno Oliveira and James Fillis used this method.
This is one of the most beautiful rides I've seen! Light, connected, free, just beautiful! He knows you are there for him! Nice riding! Thank you for posting this video.
Lovely, happy, forward, attentive horse! Not the flashiest mover, perhaps, but that's not the point is it? So happy with his rider, and vice versa. And so good, too, to see no noseband on the bridle. I've been saying for years that if you need to strap a horse's mouth shut, perhaps you're doing something wrong?
very nice music. may I ask, who is the composer?
Oh, loved this! Something for me to aspire to! Thanks for sharing!
Love this. :))
Tell us here a little about the horses history - it might help people understand what is possible to be achieved from great difficulty and encourage them. :)
Lovely work Becky!
Wow awesome job!! Are you going to post more videos? I love watching :) I learn so much!!
you tell them ,girl!! lol!! lovely to watch..
Great CLASSIC no modern dresage. Hats off
Lovely, you are an inspiration! Thank you for sharing
Can i just say thank you for all the lovely comments. For anyone who doesn't like what they see please remember that you have no idea of this horses history and how far we have come together. For anyone who doesn't like Philippe Karl and feel they can do better..................forward me a link of your videos!!!!
+beckyholden It beautiful to watch! Did you pass?
+Jessica W Thank you. Yes i passed my ridden last May and became fully licensed in August when i passed the final 2 stages for the exam :-)
+beckyholden , that was beautiful!! I am a huge fan of Philippe Karl and started doing his in hand work with my mare. My coach also is a fan and very good at the in hand work. I too have been through a lot with my mare, have had many people tell me to sell her, I have considered it but she would require a very specific home. I am persistent and don't give up. I'm not sure what you've been through with your horse but you two look lovely in the video!
Lovely!
+Korynn Weber thank you
